For the majority of people, astral projection can seem either impossible or unreal. It’s not uncommon for some to try for years without success, while others may seemingly have a natural talent and succeed on the first attempt. Regardless, I’d like to share with you some helpful tips for your astral projection journey.
Personally, astral projection came naturally to me, but only when I didn’t try to accomplish it. Anytime I put effort into it, I didn’t project. To do it when I wanted to, it took me months of trying. I read info online and purchased books, but nothing worked. Finally, I seemed to find the balance and I’ll explain it below.
Before You Try to Project
Like training your physical body before running a marathon, you must train your mind before you can travel the astral realm. As they say, you can’t run before you can walk. Fortunately, there are several things that can help you work that muscle in your third eye.
1. Meditate Often
Before ever trying astral projection, I highly recommend meditating. Little does society seem to know, meditation can come in many forms; such as while you’re cleaning your house, driving in your car, or even lying in your bed at night before you go to sleep.
Meditating isn’t about “freeing” your mind and having nothing happening upstairs, as commonly believed. It’s more about focusing your attention on a fixed point or in a single area, as if it’s all that exists. Everything else falls away once this state of mind is reached, while you simultaneously remain aware.
Understanding how to meditate is essential if you’re going to attempt conscious projection. By meditating, you learn how to connect your mind, body, and spirit through your physical senses and state of awareness. As a result, it can help you to get a feel for the different levels that reside in you, with one being your astral body.
2. Track Your Dreams
Do you remember your dreams? If not, it’s time to hit the astral gym. Having the ability to recall your dreams is linked to retaining awareness during sleep. Without dream recall, astral projection isn’t likely.
To strengthen this mind muscle, try keeping a dream journal. Ideally, it’s best to keep it next to your bed to jot down whatever you dreamt as soon as you open your eyes. With practice, you’ll notice you’re recalling more and more as this muscle grows.
3. Release Your Doubts
Understand that your consciousness isn’t limited to your physical container. This may come as a shocker to you, but you leave your meat suit all the time while you sleep. It’s remaining consciously aware while doing so that you’re working towards.
If you’ve never had an out-of-body experience, it’s easy to blow astral projection off as a hoax. With that perspective, however, you’re unknowingly perpetuating not achieving it. If you’ve already told your conscious mind that you can’t, you probably won’t. Therefore, your doubts must be released first.

Preparing for the Journey
Now that you’ve done the necessary exercises, it’s time to get ready! To prepare, the first thing you may want to do is set your space. Let’s look at how to do that.
4. Choose the Right Time
If you’re going to be interrupted at seven in the evening, it’s probably not a great time to try to astral project. You want as little distraction as possible, including having no pets that may disturb you. Each time something interferes, you basically end up having to start over.
Therefore, perhaps it would be wise to let your family know that you need space for x amount of time. Personally, I go for the morning when everyone is away or at night once everyone is asleep. Whenever you have the most quiet environment and no obligations to others is your window of opportunity.
5. Listen to Binaural Beats
When there is silence, it seems that every little noise becomes loud and clear. For this reason, you want to have some sort of background noise. Try to choose something that keeps a steady pitch.
The perfect sound for astral projection, in my opinion, is something called “binaural beats,” which shows evidence of promoting deep relaxation and stress relief. You can find many binaural beats on YouTube. Make sure that the video you pick has an appealing sound to you, and that it lasts for hours.
6. Choose a Light Blanket
If you succeed in moving into a deep trance state, your physical body may go through cycles of hot and then cold. To combat the discomfort, you don’t want to have a heavy blanket nor not enough coverage. Using a light blanket for your journey seems to do the trick.

Your Physical Body
Not that you’ve set your space, and you’re ready to take off, it’s time to focus on your body. Although it may sound counterproductive, bringing your awareness to your physical state is a priority. With that being said, the goal for your physical body is to accomplish deep, full-body relaxation.
Why? Because it’s really hard to leave a body that has a tight grip. It needs to be reassured that all is well through maximum comfort.
7. Feel for Tension
After a few deep breaths, you want to bring all of your attention to your body. Notice where you have more tension first, which will likely be around your hips and/or shoulders. Then, focus on smaller muscles, such as your feet, eyebrows, mouth, etc.
With each exhale, more tension should be released, and your body should become heavier as a result. If it is, you’re doing it correctly. For now, this should be the focal point.
8. Deep, Slow Breaths
After you take a few controlled, deep breaths in the beginning, you then want to stop trying to control it. The more relaxed you are, the slower and deeper you will naturally breathe. Continue to release tension.
Now, this part may sound strange, but you should eventually become so relaxed that you barely notice your breathing anymore. If someone walked in and gazed upon your resting body, they shouldn’t see your chest rising and falling unless they looked closely. Don’t let this strike fear in you as you’re in no danger.
9. Learn How to Regulate Your Heart Rate
If you go into this with a racing heart, you’ll have to do a bit more deep breathing. It’s best not to be under the influence of any drugs, especially stimulants, including caffeine. If you’re overstimulated, it’s going to be more difficult to achieve relaxation. Once relaxed with steady breathing, your heart rate should naturally follow suit.

Your Mind
If you want to experience total relaxation, understand that it starts with your mind. In order to travel the astral world, you must first strengthen your mind enough to control your physical state of your being. For example, tension usually comes from stress and/or anxiety, which begins in your mind.
10. Try It While You’re Still Highly Alert
If you’re sleepy when you attempt to astral project, chances are you’ll fall asleep after you relax and before it happens. Therefore, it’s better to try while you’re still wide awake. If you become too sleepy to stay awake, it may be better to give it a try in the morning after you’ve had a full night’s rest.
A little trick that can be helpful is to tell your mind (because you’re in control of it) that you’re not going to fall asleep. Explain to your consciousness that you won’t forget the experience because you’re going to be awake for the duration of your travels. This works similarly to affirmations.
11. Project Your Awareness
Once you’ve done everything above, it’s time to test yourself. After you’re fully relaxed, you can do this by projecting your awareness to other living beings nearby. This helps you to sense your consciousness outside your body.
At first, it’s better that you know where everyone is located inside your home so that you can shift your perception from behind your eyelids to visualizing them wherever they are. Once you get the hang of it, see if you can perform the same task without the knowledge of their location by sensing where you feel their energy.
12. Be All That Exists
If you’ve mastered number eleven, it’s now time to release the confines of your physical vessel. You can achieve this by, in a sense, being all or everything that exists. This happens once you’ve released the limiting ideas you were taught by society about space and time.
If you’ve been able to shift your consciousness from yours to others, you can later do multiple all at once. Then, you begin to see how interconnected everything is and gain the ability to move your consciousness wherever you decide to project it. This is when the magic truly happens, and you start to float outside your physical container!
Happy travelling!
