Interpreting the Mounts of the Palm

Overview

Palmistry is the practice of reading the lines and features of an individual’s palm to interpret their personality traits, relationships, events within their lives, talents, and more. A Palmist may analyze one’s palms to determine what it can tell their client about themselves and their life. In this post, we’re going to discuss the idea of “mounts” in palmistry. Mounts are an important part of the palm, which can reveal specific elements of a person and/or their life. Below, we’ll review each one of them, including what they’re called, where they’re located, and what they mean.

What Are Mounts?

One key aspect of palmistry is the study of the mounts of the palms, which are the fleshy cushions found at the base of each finger and around the edges of the palm of each hand. Although they’re referred to as “mounts,” some of them may appear to be more like valleys, lying flat and low. Therefore, when searching for your own mounts, be sure to look in the area referenced in the below image rather than for a peak of skin.

Each of the mounts in palmistry are associated with different planets. All of them are known for holding significant symbolic meaning, with each relating to the symbolism of that planet. If you’re already familiar with Astrology, this will likely make learning palmistry a bit easier.

The point of the mounts are to divide the palm up into separate, distinct areas of the palm. These small areas can tell us a great deal; and a palmist will usually look within those areas for specific details generally only found within those regions. An example of this would be the travel lines that are within the Mount of the Moon.

While some people say that there are only seven, main mounts, others consider the palm to have eight, while the rest believe there are nine. One reason for this is that some people consider the upper and lower mounts of Mars as a single mount rather than two; and the other reason is that many don’t consider the mount of Neptune as a mount at all. Personally, I see a total of nine mounts and that is how I’ll be describing them today.

Mount of the Moon

• Located at the base of the palm, this mount is oftentimes referred to as “the mount of Luna.” It represents intuition, emotions, and imagination.
• People with a well-developed Mount of the Moon are thought to be sensitive and emotionally intelligent individuals. They may possess a deep connection to their inner selves and the subconscious faculties of both themselves and others. Likewise, they may also be highly empathetic and possess at strong need to be creative in their daily lives.
• Those who have a lesser pronounced mount of the Moon may lack in imagination, be less emotionally aware, and have a more difficult time connecting to their intuitive nature. Sometimes, they’re regarded as cold or insensitive.

Upper Mars

• Sitting between the mount of the Moon and the mount of Mercury, the upper Mars mount regards courage. Whether verbally or physically, this mount reveals one’s ability to defend themselves.
• Individuals with a thicker or higher upper Mars may be into martial arts, combat, or wear a type of uniform to work. Their job may require physical fitness and a need for determined and focused minds.
• Conversely, people with a weaker upper Mars may be prone to unexpected, violent behavior OR almost constant nervousness and feeling as if they lack control in their lives.

Mount of Mercury

• Located below the little finger, this mount denotes communication, intelligence, and adaptability.
• People with a strong mount of Mercury generally have excellent communication skills, quick wit, perceptiveness, and innate problem-solving skills. They may work in the fields of writing, speaking, technology, sales, or business.
• If the Mercury mount sits low, the person may have an insecurity surrounding speaking, including having social anxiety. It’s possible that their lives involve some type of language barriers or other types of confusion when conversing with others.

Mount of the Sun

• Often referred to as the “mount of Apollo,” this mount is found beneath the ring finger. It symbolizes self-expression, attention, the home, and family.
• Having a strong Apollo mount suggests an overall happiness within the home and with the family. This type of person doesn’t starve for attention, nor minds getting attention. They likely have no problems with expressing themselves openly and authentically.
• When the Apollo mount is low or cramped, the person may struggle to find happiness at home, perceive it as difficult to get along with family, or feel uncertainty in navigating self-expression due to low self-esteem.

Mount of Saturn

• Situated below the middle finger, this mount signifies discipline, responsibility, and resourcefulness.
• Those with a well-developed mount of Saturn are believed to be practical, stable, and persevering individuals. They may exhibit a serious and cautious demeanor, and are thought to be reliable and hardworking.
• People with a weak Saturn mount may struggle to be disciplined and responsible. Perhaps they’re never on time, seem incapable of keeping a job, or are impulsive and sometimes childish.

Mount of Jupiter

• This mount is located at the base of the index finger and represents leadership, confidence, direction, and ambition.
• People with a prominent mount of Jupiter are said to be assertive and have a strong sense of purpose within their lives. They’re often naturally-born leaders and show a great amount of strength through life’s hardships.
• If it is too high, however, the person can be arrogant, bossy, and rude.
• A flat Jupiter mount can sometimes point to someone who follows others and always needs direction to know where to go. They may lack wisdom and see themselves as weak in comparison to stronger personalities.

Lower Mars

• Situated below the mount of Jupiter and above the mount of Venus, this mount signifies passion, energy, the ability to be a team player, and a drive for pursuits of interest.
• Individuals with a prominent lower Mars are usually passionate in their pursuits. They can be competitive in a healthy way, proven as a great asset to a team, and are highly energetic.
• When the mount is too strong, it may reveal something of a hot-head or someone with a short temper.
• Having a weak lower Mars can be indicative of someone who is not a great team player, shows poor sportsmanship, is overly competitive, and has a great need to win above others.

Mount of Venus

• Positioned at the base of the thumb, this mount represents love, relationships, sensuality, and art.
• Those with a well-defined Mount of Venus are believed to be affectionate, nurturing, and romantic individuals. They typically have a strong appreciation for beauty, romance, harmony, and comfort. It’s not uncommon for these charming people to be artists or musicians.
• When this mount is very wide, they may experience various types of sexual relationships and be known as someone who “plays the field” or rarely becomes serious. In short, they may prefer lust to love.
• Conversely, if this area is flat, the person may enjoy solitary living, being in their own company, or have little interest in relations with others.

Mount of Neptune

• This area is the bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind. It is also the meeting point between the spiritual and physical realms.
• A higher than average Neptune mount is suggestive of someone who is into divination, spirituality, and alternative healing. They may show signs of having a sort of psychic ability, mediumship, or psychological understanding of human nature. Oftentimes, these individuals have powerful dreams.
• If this mount is higher or wider than most, there’s a chance of disillusionment, becoming lost in fantasy, bouts of dissociating, or intense idealism.
• A low Neptune mount is the mark of those who have little interest or belief in the unseen worlds. They may often struggle to understand themselves as they have a shallow connection to their buried memories and suppressed feelings. It’s common to see these people frequently feel “stuck” or lost during their lives.
