In astrology, there is more to learn than solely about the signs and planets. Another key component to an individual’s natal astrology chart is about the astrological houses. The houses reveal where we may have certain experiences or when we can expect something to take place. In this post, however, we’re going to dive specifically into the third house of communication and education!

Unlike signs and planets, houses regard events and circumstances in which we tend to have certain types of experiences. The types of experiences we may have depends on the house and its associations. Any astrological connections to the third house indicate things which are mainly surrounding communication and education.

More specifically, the third house involves early education, our ability to learn, the way we express ourselves, language, and intellect. Oddly enough, this house may also involve our interactions with our siblings as well as our neighbors. Lastly, the third house is frequently thought to be connected to things like short trips, weekend travel, or any movement outside the home, but ends quickly.

The Third House is also known as the Gemini House. Essentially, all this means is that the characteristics commonly associated to the zodiac sign, Gemini, can also be attributed to the house. However, this is through our experiences rather than within our personality.

For example, since Gemini is known for being social, intellectual, and nervous, the third house will indicate certain events we may face that revolve around sociability, pursuits of intellect, and nervousness. We can determine more about these circumstances through analyzing our natal astrology charts.

3rd House Location

In this image is the astrological wheel. Within it, you’ll find the twelve zodiac signs, the ten planets, the points, and the twelve houses. On the lower, left side of the wheel, above Gemini and the number 3 is where you’ll find the third house.

Naturally, Gemini rules the third house. However, for many of us, we have a different sign ruling our personal third house. We may also have or may not have planets in the house that influence this placement. Likewise, any aspects to the third house may impact it as well.

Everything, from the line separating Taurus and Gemini to the opposite line that divides Gemini and Cancer is within the third house. Therefore, the symbol for Mercury, (☿), resides in this house for the current example. So, whenever you’re looking at your personal astrology chart, this is how you determine what’s in your third house.

If you have many planets in the third house, your overall life could be highly focused around communicating with others and learning or teaching. You could be a writer, understand multiple languages, or be great at doing impressions of other people. Chances are that you have more than one sibling and frequently go on short trips.

Conversely, if you don’t have any planets in your third house, it simply means that your life isn’t highly focused on the contents of the house. Whenever this is the case, check out the sign that rules your personal third house for more information.
