Numerology Overview
Numerology has many similarities to Astrology, such as having charts and readings for individual. For astrology, the sun, moon, and rising sign are critical placements! In a basic Numerology chart, there are a few top placements that are held with the highest regard.
These numbers are powerful. Many believe they have a great deal of influence over us as individuals and within our lives. The Lifepath, Birthday, Expression, Personality, and the Soul Urge Numbers are the most significant Numerology chart placements. However, the Soul Urge Number is the one we want to talk to you about now.
The Soul Urge Number
The Soul Urge Number, like the name suggests, focuses on who we are at a soul level. Therefore, this number describes what fulfills our spirit. It’s the one that helps us to see what it is that fuels the deepest and most elusive part of our nature, our soul.
The Soul Urge Number helps us to channel our spiritual nature. It assists us in discovering our most authentic self. This is the number that has the power to light a part of us up that was previously undiscovered.
Conversely, the Soul Urge Number is sometimes referred to as the “Heart’s Desire Number.” These two names are used interchangeably as they point to the same placement of a Numerology chart. Either name that is used will still be interpreted with the same concept.
Mind, Body, Spirit Complex
According to many philosophies and religious texts around the world, we are not solely our physicality. In fact, we’re often believed to be made up of a much more intricate system referred to as “the mind, body, spirit complex.” What this means is that we do reside within a body, while we also have a mind that acts as a database, and a soul that is a bit harder to discern whenever we’re not tuned into it.
By understanding our Soul Urge Number, we’re able to figure out what types of experiences in life feel the most meaningful to us. It gives us the ability to see with more clarity what our soul desires. Knowing this number grants us access to what is often the most mysterious piece of the puzzle that when put together, makes us feel whole.
Numerology Calculations
While the Lifepath and Birthday Numbers only use the digits of one’s birthdate to calculate an individual’s numbers, the Expression, Personality, and Soul Urge Numbers take the letters of their name and convert them into numbers. Yet, each one differs and is calculated differently too.
In a previous post, we learned about how Numerologists use each of the letters of a name to determine a person’s Expression Number. We do this by using the chart that helps us to convert each letter into a number. For example, the letters A, J, and S are all translated to a one.
So, the name “Jane” would be 1155. “Ja-” is 11 and “-ne” is 55.
Although the Soul Urge Number is similar, this calculation only requires the vowels to be used.
Finding the Soul Urge Number
In order to determine your Soul Urge Number, all you need is your full name at the time of birth and some basic math skills. Use the chart above to convert each vowel within your name into a number.
To calculate the Soul Urge Number, we must find the digit for the vowels in our name.
So, if our full name at the time of birth was Jane Anne Doe, we’d take the a, e, A, e, o, and e from the name and find their numerical equivalent. Now, we have 1, 5, 1, 5, 6, and 5.
With the digits we just found in our name, Jane Anne Doe, we now add them together to find their total. Each a represents a one, the e‘s are fives, and the o is a six.
a+e+A+e+o+e
1+5+1+5+6+5=23
Because there are only the numbers one through nine in Numerology, aside from the master numbers eleven and twenty-two, we then simplify 23 to reduce it further until we have one of the numbers one through nine, eleven, or twenty-two.
2+3=5.
So, that means that our Soul Urge Number would be a five.
To ensure we understand, let’s do another example. If our name was John Jacob Smith, we’d take the letters o, a, o, and i and get the numbers 6, 1, 6, and 9. Then we add them together.
6+1+6+9=22.
In this instance, we would NOT simplify considering twenty-two is a master number. Therefore, John Jacon Smith‘s Soul Urge Number is twenty-two.
And Sometimes “Y”
Sometimes, the letter “y” in certain names are also considered vowels. This part often confuses beginners. It’s important to note, however, that whenever there is a “y” in a name, it’s almost always a vowel.
For names like Brandy, Cheyanne, Courtney, Cynthia, Dylan, Ryan, or Sydney, the “y” is a vowel. This is because in some of these names, there’s no vowel next to it, and it makes a vowel sound, such as within Brandy. In the other names mentioned, the “y” is a vowel because they assist the vowel next to it in making the vowel sound.
Conversely, “y” is a consonant whenever it’s at the beginning of a name, and/or makes a “j” sound, such as names like Yvonne, Yosef, or Yasmine.
Soul Urge Number Meanings
Once you’ve configured your Soul Urge Number, scroll to the numbers below to see what your number means. Don’t forget that you do not simplify the numbers eleven or twenty-two. Therefore, if you’re a two or a four, be sure that you didn’t simply too far. If you do, you may not realize you have a master number!
One
Soul Urge Number one is a person who is most fulfilled when they have an opportunity to lead. They’re bold, courageous, and assertive. Whenever they feel unable to exert this part of themselves, they become unconsciously confrontational. However, the number one does best when it’s given a platform to show off its skills. Better yet, this placement feels at home whenever they’re winning.
Two
Those with a two Soul Urge Number operate best behind the scenes. Although they’re not usually fond of the spotlight, it doesn’t mean that they’re not pulling the strings. Having high emotional intelligence, this number is sensitive to surrounding energies and works best in small groups or one on one encounters where they can tune in without feeling anxious. Yet, the two has an incredible intuitive ability.
Three
People with Soul Urge Number three are incredibly creative. They do best whenever they have many opportunities to express themselves through communication and art. They are often most balanced when the people in their lives support their unique needs, talents, and abilities. This is due to the fact that they’re unlikely to live up to the status quo. This is an incredibly unique type of person, unwilling to conform!

Soul Urge Number four people realize at some point, typically after quite a bit of chaos, that they are most fulfilled whenever their lives are organized. Somewhat high-strung and controlled, this number prefers cleanliness within their environment for optimum performance. Once their space is tidy, they’re great at helping others do the same. Four is able to shine whenever they can put the metaphorical pieces of the puzzle together.
Five
Having a Soul Urge Number five is indicative of a need to move and make many changes throughout life. This is the type of person who feels best when travelling and shaking their lives up. Their soul calls them to use their senses to have various types of experiences and exploration. Whenever things become stifled or mundane, this number will not hesitate to make sudden moves. This placement reveals someone who turns heads.
Six
Six Soul Urge Number is satisfied within their heart whenever they can focus on what’s important to them. Usually, their close friends and family are what they hold nearest and dearest. The Soul Urge Number eight people are hard workers, naturally good at many types of things. They move through life picking up countless skills and talents. However, this number is the most fulfilled whenever they learn to balance their material and spiritual endeavors. What this means is that the eight finds little satisfaction in life until they figure out how to balance these two sides of themselves day to day.
Nine
With nine as a Soul Urge Number, these people are akin to dark angels. They’re a light hidden in the darkest depths. Although they may appear edgy and brooding, they’re humanitarians who truly aspire to lend a helping hand. They’ll unlikely ask much in return. That means that they’re most fulfilled whenever they feel that they’re making some type of change within their community and positively impacting the world.
Eleven
Whenever a person has the master number eleven as their Soul Urge Number, it’s best for them to make it a point to connect to their intuitive nature. Through trauma, they find their affinity for energetic healing. Although this may not come naturally in the earlier part of their life, once they tap into it, they’ll experience great changes that lead them to deeper spiritual understandings and related pursuits. Eleven truly has a magic touch.
Twenty-TWo
Having twenty-two as a Soul Urge Number indicates a person who takes a while in life to realize that their soul urges them to build by manifesting. Until they can accept that their soul is gifted with this innate ability, these people struggle. Unfortunately, they make many mistakes before they see themselves for what they are. Once they harness it, they see how impactful and powerful they truly are, becoming the master builder.
