Uranus Overview
The planet Uranus is rich in symbolism and mythology. While it’s also commonly referred to in astrology, Uranus is well-studied in science as well. In this post, we’re going to talk about planet Uranus, including what it means to have it in each of the zodiac signs in a natal astrology chart.
Uranus in Science
Found in the year 1781, Uranus was the first planet ever discovered with a telescope! Unlike planet earth, this particular planet has a total of 27 moons! Interestingly, Uranus not only rotates completely on its side, but it also rotates from east to west!
Although a day on Uranus would only last approximately 17 hours, this planet is known as a slow–moving planet because it takes 84 years to make a full cycle around the sun. Uranus, like Saturn, has rings, but these rings are much thinner and lighter, making them less visible. If we were to look closely, however, we would see a total of 13 of these rings!
Symbolism of Mercury
Born of the void of chaos, Uranus (or Ouranos in Greek mythology) was the first being ever created within the universe. Later, he became the consort of Gaia (Earth) and the father of the Titans.
When it comes to the symbol of Uranus, as seen in the image, it represents several things. First, the circle represents the Earth, while the stick above it is meant to be an arrow pointing up. Everything in between the outer lines represents the heavens.

Uranus in Astrology
Change, Freedom, Individuality, Innovation, & Rebellion.
Making rebels, engineers, and inventors, Uranus gives us energy that is totally original. Likewise, it’s quirky, innventive, and distracted. With extreme curiosity this planet is highly intelligent, but unpreditable.
However, as Uranus also has a need for freedom, it only learns what it chooses. Whatever that may be ensures Uranus knows everything about the subject, inside and out. Therefore, this is the planet with genius energy, or something similar to a mad scientist.
Age of Aquarius
Uranus is the ruling planet of the new age, which is famously known as the “Age of Aquarius!” We are now moving faster toward progression than human history has ever known or recorded. This is a complex era full of twists, turns, and likely many types of revolutions.
It is a time of constantly expanding scientific discoveries, tehcnological advancements, and rapid intellectual growth. AI is now a daily use and robots are on their way toward joining us in society. Yet, the Age of Aquarius also indicates many revolutions.
Uranus Through the Planets
As mentioned above, Uranus takes 84 years to completely orbit the sun. This is an incredibly long time when compared to earth’s brief 365 days, which is a single year! 84 years divided by twelve signs equals seven years that Uranus spends within a sign.
Since Uranus spends seven years in each zodiac sign, it means that it doesn’t change as frequently as other planets. Therefore, the majority of those within your generation will have Uranus in the same sign.
